What is SSS?

The Social Security System (SSS) is the Philippine government’s mandatory social insurance program for private sector workers. Every month 5% of your salary is deducted and matched by your employer’s 10% — that 15% total builds your eligibility for retirement pension, disability benefits, sickness allowance, maternity benefits, and salary loans. SSS is not a tax you lose — it’s a savings and insurance system that pays you back.

The contribution rate reached its final level of 15% in 2025 under Republic Act No. 11199 (Social Security Act of 2018) and stays at 15% for 2026. Your contributions are based on your Monthly Salary Credit (MSC) — a salary bracket system that determines your exact contribution amount. The minimum MSC is ₱5,000 and the maximum is ₱35,000.
