How SSS Contributions Work

SSS contributions are not calculated as a straight percentage of your exact salary. Instead, your salary is matched to a specific Monthly Salary Credit (MSC) bracket — and that bracket determines your contribution amount. The MSC runs in ₱500 steps up to a maximum of ₱35,000; the minimum depends on member type — ₱5,000 for employees, self-employed and voluntary members, ₱8,000 for land-based OFWs, and ₱1,000 for kasambahay. If your salary is ₱25,100, your MSC is ₱25,000 — not ₱25,100. This bracket system is why your contribution doesn't always change when you get a small raise.

For 2026, the total contribution rate is 15% of your MSC. For an employed member, the employer pays 10% and the employee pays 5%, plus a small employer-paid Employees' Compensation (EC) contribution of ₱10 or ₱30 depending on the MSC bracket. Self-employed, voluntary and land-based OFW members pay the full 15% themselves — and self-employed members also pay the EC contribution on their own. Sea-based OFWs (seafarers) follow the employee split, with the manning agency acting as employer.

What is the MPF?

For members with an MSC above ₱20,000, contributions are split between the regular SSS fund and the Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) — now called MySSS Pension Booster (formerly WISP Plus). The MPF portion covers the contribution on the salary above ₱20,000 and works like an additional retirement savings account that earns investment income. You don't do anything differently — it's automatic — but it shows as a separate line on your SSS record and is paid out on top of your regular pension.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why doesn't my contribution change when I get a small raise?

Because SSS uses brackets, not a percentage of your exact salary. Your contribution only changes when your salary crosses into a new MSC bracket. A ₱200 raise might not move you into the next bracket — so your SSS deduction stays the same. The maximum MSC is ₱35,000 for all member types; the minimum MSC varies — ₱5,000 for employees, self-employed and voluntary members, ₱8,000 for land-based OFWs, and ₱1,000 for kasambahay.

Can I pay more than the required SSS contribution?

Yes — you can voluntarily increase your MSC up to ₱35,000 even if your salary is lower. Paying at a higher bracket means larger benefits when you claim pension, sickness, or maternity benefits. However you generally cannot decrease your MSC below your previous contribution level.

What does EC contribution cover?

The Employees' Compensation (EC) program covers work-related injuries, sickness, disability, or death. It is ₱10/month if your MSC is below ₱15,000, or ₱30/month if your MSC is ₱15,000 and above. For employed members and kasambahay it is paid entirely by the employer and never comes out of your salary; self-employed members pay it themselves. Land-based OFWs and voluntary members are not covered by the EC program.

How do I verify my posted SSS contributions?

Log into your My.SSS account at my.sss.gov.ph or use the SSS mobile app. Go to "Inquiry" then "Contributions" to see every posted monthly contribution. If a month is missing, your employer may not have remitted your contribution — you can file a complaint with SSS.
