What is the SSS Sickness Notification?

The SSS Sickness Notification (SN) is the form you submit when you are sick or confined and want to claim SSS sickness benefits. It is a mandatory first step — you cannot apply for the sickness benefit without an approved sickness notification on file. The notification tells SSS and your employer that you are sick, your diagnosis, the estimated period of confinement, and the medical certificate from your doctor.

The most critical thing to know is the 5-day rule: you must notify your employer within 5 calendar days from the start of your confinement. If you notify late, SSS will only count your benefit from the 5th day before the date you actually filed — meaning you lose days of benefit for every day you delay. The 5-day rule does not apply to hospital confinement — if you are admitted to a hospital, you can notify after discharge.

⚠️ The 5-Day Rule

File your sickness notification within 5 calendar days from the start of your confinement.
Late filing = confinement counted from 5th day before notification date only.
Exception: Hospital confinement — 5-day rule does not apply.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the daily sickness benefit amount?

Your daily sickness benefit is 90% of your Average Daily Salary Credit (ADSC). The ADSC is computed by dividing your total MSC for the 6 months before the semester of sickness by 180. For example, if your average MSC is ₱15,000, your ADSC is ₱83.33 and your daily benefit is ₱75.00. The maximum benefit period is 120 days per year.

What if my illness extends beyond the initial estimate?

File a new sickness notification form within 5 days after the end of the previous estimated period. Your doctor checks the applicable boxes for an intermediate or final notification. This extends your benefit coverage for the additional period of confinement.

Can I still get sickness benefit if I was injured at work?

Yes — work-related injuries are covered by both the SSS sickness benefit and the Employees’ Compensation (EC) program. If you are injured within company premises or while working, your employer is deemed notified automatically — the 5-day rule does not apply. File your sickness notification as soon as possible after the incident.

My employer did not submit my notification to SSS — what do I do?

Your employer is legally required to submit your sickness notification to SSS within 5 days of receiving it. If they fail to do so, you can file a complaint with SSS. Contact the SSS hotline at 1455 or email usssaptayo@sss.gov.ph. You can also go directly to the nearest SSS branch and report the situation.
