What is PhilHealth?

The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) is the government agency that administers the National Health Insurance Program. Every private sector employee, government worker, and self-employed Filipino is required to contribute monthly premiums. In exchange, PhilHealth covers a significant portion of hospital bills, surgical procedures, maternity care, and outpatient consultations — reducing out-of-pocket healthcare costs for members and their dependents.

For employed members, the contribution is split equally between employee and employer — you pay 2.5% of your monthly basic salary and your employer matches it with another 2.5%. Your PhilHealth deduction appears on your payslip every month. The total 5% premium goes into the National Health Insurance Fund, which pays for your benefits when you need them. Coverage extends to your legal spouse, children under 21, and parents over 60 — registered as dependents on your PhilHealth record.
