What is holiday and premium pay?
Holiday pay, premium pay, overtime pay and night-shift differential are the extra amounts the Labor Code requires your employer to pay when you work on special days, beyond eight hours, or late at night. They protect rank-and-file employees from being paid an ordinary day's wage for work done under non-ordinary conditions. The exact uplift depends on which kind of day you worked — a regular holiday pays far more than a special non-working day — and whether the hours stack with rest-day, overtime, or night-shift conditions. This calculator applies the official DOLE rates to your daily wage so you can check that your payslip is correct.
How premium pay is computed
Everything starts from your daily wage and the hourly rate derived from it (daily ÷ 8). For the first eight hours, your pay is the daily wage multiplied by the rate for that type of day: 100% on an ordinary day, 130% on a rest day or special non-working day, 150% when a rest day is also a special day, 200% on a regular holiday, and 260% when a regular holiday falls on your rest day. If you work beyond eight hours, those extra hours are overtime — paid an additional 25% of the hourly rate on an ordinary day, or an additional 30% of the applicable hourly rate on a rest day, special day or holiday.
Night-shift differential is a separate premium: an extra 10% of your applicable hourly rate for every hour worked between 10 PM and 6 AM. It stacks on top of whatever day rate applies, so a holiday night hour earns the holiday rate plus the night differential. Where an hour is simultaneously overtime and night work, the differential is computed on the overtime rate, so your actual pay can be a little higher than a simple estimate.
DOLE premium pay rates
| Type of day | First 8 hours | Overtime / hour |
|---|---|---|
| Ordinary working day | 100% | +25% |
| Rest day or special non-working day | 130% | +30% |
| Rest day that is also a special day | 150% | +30% |
| Regular holiday | 200% | +30% |
| Regular holiday on your rest day | 260% | +30% |
Night-shift differential: +10% of the applicable hourly rate for each hour worked between 10 PM and 6 AM.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much is holiday pay in the Philippines?
For work on a regular holiday, you are paid 200% of your daily wage for the first eight hours. On a special non-working day, you get 130%. If the holiday also falls on your rest day, a regular holiday pays 260%.
Do I get paid on a regular holiday if I do not work?
Yes. If you are present or on paid leave on the workday immediately before a regular holiday, you receive 100% of your daily wage even without working. Special non-working days follow a "no work, no pay" rule unless a company policy or CBA provides otherwise.
How is overtime pay computed?
Overtime is any work beyond eight hours in a day. On an ordinary day it adds 25% to your hourly rate; on a rest day, special day or holiday it adds 30% of the applicable hourly rate for that day.
What is night-shift differential?
An extra 10% of your hourly rate for each hour worked between 10 PM and 6 AM, under Article 86 of the Labor Code. It applies on top of any holiday, rest-day or overtime premium for those hours.
